How to Tell You Skin Type - Fantastic Girl

How to Tell You Skin Type

Knowing your skin type is absolutely essential when it comes to making decisions about your beauty regime. The health of your skin depends on how well you eat and take care of yourself. To make sure you always look your best you must first determine your skin type and then adapt your beauty regime to match it.

In order to determine your skin type, The Handmade Soap Co encourages you do a simple test. With a clean tissue to wipe your face first thing in the morning, when you have just woken up.  Then compare the tissue to the options below in order to determine your skin type.

  1. Normal Skin

If you have normal skin the tissue will not show any traces of oil and your skin should feel elastic, supple and appear vibrant. It looks clean and smooth and has good circulation. Even with a minimum care, it will look good well into your advanced age.

  1. Dry Skin

Many Irish people suffer from dry skin. If you are the dry skin type, you will not notice any oil on the tissue but your skin will feel tight and may be rough and flaky. Unfortunately, dry skin is very prone to ageing and although it may still look great on a young person a moisturizing skin care regime is a must. When it comes to fine lines and wrinkles prevention is better than cure!

  1. Oily Skin

If you have oily skin, you will notice spots of oil on the tissue. The areas of the nose, cheeks and forehead are particularly affected. Oily skin is problematic – it usually looks greasy, has enlarged pores, and tends to break into acne. On the plus side oily skin doesn’t age as quickly as dryer types. Careful cleaning, minimizing of carbohydrate consumption, and avoiding rich creams can be helpful in improving the quality of oily skin.

  1. Combination Skin

The best (or worst) of both worlds! If your skin is combination, the tissue will have traces of oil coming from your nose and forehead but will be clean in the areas that touched your cheeks. Dry zones, which are usually located on the cheeks and eyes, should be treated with rich creams and moisturizers, while oily areas, will benefit from frequent and thorough cleaning.

  1. Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is usually very dry, tends to feel tight, and becomes inflamed and irritated easily. Typically, sensitive skin develops reddish and scaly areas, can be itchy and tingly, and is prone to breaking into spots. It is the most problematic and fragile type of skin, which needs a very special type of care. Be sure to use natural products without harsh chemicals that may further damage and irritate the skin.
